My
latest project stems for a trip to the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland in
search of the Ogham stones. These monuments were erected up to the
coming of Christianity, at a time of change from old to new beliefs,
and their setting on old churchyards and wild places perhaps reflects
how in life and death we are bound to the natural world. They are
inscribed with personal dedications carved in the Ogham alphabet and
represent the earliest recorded form of the Irish language. The
alphabet is conposed of series of straight horizontal or diagonal lines
and formed the basis for the Celtic Tree Calendar, in which each letter
was named after a tree.Cnoc Breanainn from Brandon Bay (SOLD)![]() |
